"The real challenge and the great mystery in the field was: Can you actually take a piece of software and encrypt it but still have it be runnable, executable and fully functional," Sahai said. "It's a question that a lot of companies have been interested in for a long time."
According to Sahai, previously developed techniques for obfuscation presented only a "speed bump," forcing an attacker to spend some effort, perhaps a few days, trying to reverse-engineer the software. The new system, he said, puts up an "iron wall," making it impossible for an adversary to reverse-engineer the software without solving mathematical problems that take hundreds of years to work out on today's computers — a game-change in the field of cryptography

DrOp, I wonder if you ever could say something meaningful and actually related to the topic being discussed? Your comments just take up space on forum and time of its visitors but essentially mean absolutely nothing. Either say something, which adds to the discussion or keep your mouth tightly shut!

This new technique looks too overcomplicated and not easy to implement. Things looks nice in theory, but they will have a lot of problems on practice - different compilers output (including specific modules like MFC usage), OS-specific code, managed code, etc.
I'm really doubt it will be released as something stable and usable in near years, idea is interesting though. And I bet this protection will not be unbreakable - there are always some smart enough people around to reverse-engineer this obfuscation (and write deobfuscator, dumper or whatever for it, depending on how it will be implemented after all).

Dr0p, well, this is much better! At least something specific and to the point. Some food for thought. Thank you! Not really sure what "Matan write old fart" means. Probably something intended to be offensive to the opponent (me, in this case) but who cares! Since I cannot understand that "idiomatic" expression, I am not offended.

Actually, Dr0p says true. One week ago I saw the article about new programming language with hardware bytecode interpretation! There was 11 pages of some stupid text, but the author (professor of the one famous university) thought, that he wrote something useful. But where was the prototype of that supernatural hardware? Maybe in another reality, I don't know.
So if this protection is so cool, where is the sample? it's just a great deal of text, nothing more.

ARCHANGEL I never said that DrOp was right or wrong. After all, this topic is not about him at all.
I simply do not like when people comment something like that: "Dementia!" without backing up their opinions with real arguments, facts, references, etc. Now that he provided certain facts to prove his point I applaud him for that because his info helps me to understand the subject of this discussion and form my own opinion.

This was already posted here https://ssl.exelab.ru/f/index.php?action=vthread&forum=7&topic=22032 So this one is closed. P.S. Besides don't actually see the point in posting this in worldwide as topicstarter is russian-speaking.
